In questa originale opera il concetto di ideologia tripartita, postulata da Dumézil, viene applicato ai miti dell'Asia Orientale, basandosi principalmente sulle ricerche svolte dal professor Yoshida Atsuhiko, che iniziò i suoi studi in Francia proprio sotto lo guida di Dumézil. Avvalendosi del metodo comparativo, viene portato alla luce l'inequivocabile carattere trifunzionale delle tradizioni mitiche dello shinto giapponese primitivo e di altri popoli altaici. Si disveleranno così corrispondenze, sorprendentemente numerose e puntuali, testimonianza di profonde influenze del mondo indoeuropeo sull'Asia orientale risalenti a benprima dell'introduzione del buddhismo, che gettano una nuova luce sui rapporti intercorrenti in epoche remote tra i vari popoli dell'Eurasia.
