We sometimes think that western civilization started in the Mediterranean: in Greece and then in Rome. It didn’t. We are amazed when we discover that our history started 3000 years before the birth of Christ, in Mesopotamia, between the Tigris and the Euphrates, an area now occupied by Iraq and neighbouring countries.
