II sensus aestheticus dell'uomo contemporaneo è il principale imputato in questo libro. Alla perdita di sensibilità estetico-artistica può essere però contrapposto un progetto di educazione estetica che accompagni l'essere umano in ogni età della vita. Tutte le culture hanno posseduto e rivelato una loro idea dell'uomo e dell'arte manifestandola nelle linee dell'educazione estetica del giovane. Il compito di questo volume si riassume nel tentativo di ricondurre tali linee al testo estetico, al soggetto in età evolutiva, nonché alla scuola e alla didattica, ma pure di ricomporle in un efficace quadro di sintesi delle principali teorie (filosofiche, pedagogiche, estetologiche, storico-artistiche) che regolano la formazione estetica nella cultura contemporanea.
